Claire Spalding, our Global Sales & Marketing Director, embarked on another journey from NOROCK's headquarters in Australia to the United States, home to NOROCK USA! Claire's purpose was twofold: to team up with Martin Bolick, our VP Sales Americas, at events including RestaurantPoint West, BOND Five Star, and National Restaurant Show, and to engage with our valued customers and NOROCK representatives.
RestaurantPoint West 2023, Austin TX
Claire Spalding’s first stop was RestaurantPoint West in Austin, where NOROCK has established a longstanding tradition of participation. RestaurantPoint is the premier event that connects restaurant chain executives with suppliers, with a strong emphasis on “innovation and strategic partnerships for design, construction, renovation, facilities and FF&E.” Claire reunited with Martin Bolick at a bustling Starbucks, marking the beginning of an eventful RPW show.
The days that followed at RPW were filled with insightful boardroom presentations, where Claire and Martin showcased NOROCK’s cutting-edge self-stabilizing table bases to influential restaurant chains. Additionally, the team took the opportunity to explore Austin’s charm, including going on a scenic steamboat tour.
BOND Five Star + BOND Diseñotel 2023, Cancun Mexico
The next stop for Claire and Martin was the much-anticipated BOND Five Star and BOND Diseñotel events in the tropical paradise of Cancun. This marked their first time attending a BOND event, and their anticipation was exceeded. The events provided an exceptional opportunity for the team to connect with prominent hotel groups and designers, expanding their network and forging valuable partnerships. Amidst their busy schedule, they managed to carve out some well-deserved relaxation time, basking in the warm sun and enjoying refreshing dips in the pool. And what better way to embrace the vibrancy in Mexico than indulging in a few margaritas?! The closing night was unforgettable, with a mariachi band performance and a silent disco.
New Orleans, LA
Claire and Martin had meetings set up in New Orleans next — and, of course, it was just a coincidence that New Orleans happens to be known for its culinary chops! They went straight to Red Fish Grill, where they savoured the renowned fish and gumbo dishes. The experience was made even more memorable by their charismatic server, Ike.
The next day they were off to the iconic Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter, enjoying the coffee and famous beignets. Catching up with NOROCK representative Marlin Donham from Marlin’s Marketing & Sales, she quickly turned tour guide of her beloved hometown as the trio ventured through the city’s streets, admiring the character-filled old buildings and navigating uneven sidewalks (a NOROCK playground!).
Their culinary journey in New Orleans continued with a visit to the renowned Turkey and the Wolf, a must-try spot for sandwiches, followed by one of their favourite meals of the trip at Pomegranate Hospitality’s flagship restaurant SABA in uptown New Orleans. Another notable establishment was New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood, which now proudly utilises NOROCK self-stabilizing table bases at all its locations. With a mix of our Trail in various sizes, they have found the perfect solution for stability in their establishments! Next up, AYU Bakehouse which captured their hearts with its delectable pastries (and our Terrace in silver which worked so well on their uneven paved terraces!).
No matter how many times it happens, wherever we are in the world when we spot a NOROCK table base in the wild it brings us so much joy! Other NOROCK sightings included Voodoo Tavern and Poboys and our Parkway at Buffa’s Bar.
National Restaurant Association Show, Chicago IL
Rounding off the trip was the National Restaurant Association Show, which this year was in NOROCK USA’s home state of Illinois. The NRA show was a fantastic opportunity for Claire and Martin to connect with NOROCK’s esteemed representative groups and dealers. The show floor was abuzz and our distinctive table bases were spotted at various exhibitor stands, including BUM Commercial Furniture’s booth, where the table bases integrated with their outdoor furniture. Additionally, the presence of NOROCK at our long-term collaborator Grosfillex’s stand was a real highlight.
Amidst the bustling atmosphere, Martin, with his keen eye for culinary delights, discovered he had his very own famous potato rolls and bread! He may be biased, but he can vouch for the potato rolls — be sure to give them a try sometime.
As their trip across America and Mexico came to a close, Claire and Martin couldn’t resist indulging in one final culinary adventure together. They made their way to Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, a renowned American restaurant chain featuring NOROCK’s self-stabilizing table bases. It was a fitting end that highlights the continued growth and impact of NOROCK in the world of hospitality. With their hearts and bellies full, Claire and Martin parted ways with a sense of accomplishment and excitement for what lies ahead in their mission to revolutionise the dining experience.
