The iconic restaurant, which first opened its doors in December 1986, underwent a remarkable transformation in 2019, breathing new life into its interior design. Spearheaded by Paul Mata of Mata Design Studio (also responsible for the interiors of Short Order and Tom’s Providore & Wine Bar to name a few), the revamped look captures the essence of an 80s fish and chip shop meets NYC deli, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere. One of the features of this makeover is the incorporation of NOROCK Trail self-stabilising table bases, offering patrons a seamless dining experience. Paul worked closely with NOROCK partner Furniture Options on the project and, of course, with restauranteur George Kailis and his team.
The roots of Kailis Fishmarket Café trace back to the vision of George’s father, Victor Kailis, who created a place where locals and visitors alike could enjoy the local seafood. Situated in the picturesque Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, the restaurant has become a culinary landmark. The revival of Kailis Fishmarket Café by Mata Design Studio is nothing short of a visual feast, exuding a perfect blend of contemporary aesthetics and timeless charm, making it a versatile space that’s moved on beyond the kitsch fishing nets.
The revamped space includes our Trail self-stabilizing table bases, which provide an unparalleled dining experience by eliminating wobbling tables. Ensuring that every meal is enjoyed with stability and comfort, our NOROCK self-stabilising table bases are a subtle yet impactful addition that enhances the overall dining experience. NOROCK allows patrons to focus on savouring the delectable seafood offerings without any distractions.
While the new design undoubtedly adds a layer of sophistication to the Fishmarket Café, the heart of the establishment remains its commitment to serving exceptional seafood. The menu boasts an array of fresh catches, paying homage to their dedication to quality and sustainability.
